I dug out my mum’s old rangefinder, the Minolta Hi-matic 7sII, around the time I got my first film cameras. That was about 2 years ago, but it was only lately that I loaded my first roll of film in it. Frankly, I didn’t quite enjoy the experience, largely because I was unable to focus on anything within 0.9m, and I am just so fond of going near my subjects.
But of course, the Hi-matic 7sII has its strengths. For one, the photos that were properly focused on turned out surprisingly sharp, if not sharper, than those taken with my SLRs. It is also so much lighter than all the SLRs I own, making it the ideal camera to bring out every day. Now, I’ve just got to remember to take off the lens cap before pressing the shutter.
