morning of a wedding

(Canon A1)

The wedding “gatecrash” is mandatory in many Chinese weddings, during which the bridesmaids put the groom and his groomsmen through a series of games and haggle for red packets (i.e. money) before the groom is allowed to receive – and kiss – the bride. The gatecrash is meant to be a fun thing, heightening the atmosphere of the room with peels of laughter while giving the groom a chance to show his bride how much he is willing to sacrifice for her.

This is my third time being a bridesmaid and each experience is different. This time, the boys were made to consume bitter and sour food, forced into complex yoga poses etc – you get the idea – although I must say these were easy-peasy games compared to what I’ve seen before!
